Fought with a drippy faucet for months before I tried a $6 fix

I had this single-handle kitchen faucet that would slowly drip no matter what I did. I was ready to drop $150 on a whole new faucet from Home Depot. Then my neighbor came over and said to just replace the rubber O-ring inside the handle. Cost me about six bucks at Ace Hardware and took maybe 20 minutes. The drip vanished instantly. Has anyone else almost bought a whole new appliance just to find a tiny cheap part was the problem?

How long did you actually live with that drip before the neighbor spoke up?

Went through something similar with my old washing machine. It kept stopping mid-cycle and I was convinced the motor was shot. Looked up prices for a new one and everything. My brother-in-law came over and found a $4 belt that had just slipped off the pulley. Put it back on with a screwdriver and it ran like new for another three years. Made me feel pretty foolish but also glad I didn't rush out and buy a whole new machine.
