Had a guy tell me to use WD-40 on my sticking window... awful advice

An old timer at the lumber yard swore a quick squirt of WD-40 would fix my painted-shut bedroom window. It worked for about two days, then the window got even more gummed up and started dripping oily gunk down the sash. Anyone else gotten burned by a seemingly obvious fix that turned into a bigger problem?

Did you read that WD-40 isn't even a real lubricant?

Hold on though, is it really that serious? WD-40 is mostly solvent with a little bit of oil mixed in. The solvent part cleans things for a hot minute, but then it dries out and leaves that sticky residue behind. A painted-shut window needed a razor blade and some silicone spray, not a can of water displacer.

Whoa yeah I used to swear by WD-40 for everything but honestly this makes total sense now that you say it.
