Just realized my old way of patching drywall was way harder than it needed to be
I used to do the whole mud-and-tape routine for every little nail hole and crack... took forever and looked lumpy. Then my neighbor showed me using spackle with a putty knife that's damp, not dry. Took me about 10 minutes to fix 5 holes in my hallway instead of an hour. Has anyone else found a tool or trick that cut your patch time in half?

Wait, you dampen the putty knife?

Stop, wait, really? I have never heard of dampening a putty knife before @williamb29. That sounds like it would just make the mud all goopy and slide right off instead of sticking where you want it. I always just use it dry and scrape off the excess, seems way more straightforward to me.

Oh it's not wet, just barely damp so the mud doesn't stick.
