My neighbor swore by using toothpaste to fill nail holes in drywall, and I tried it on a rental inspection.

My old roommate did that with Colgate in our first apartment. It worked for like three months before the patch turned a weird yellow color and crumbled, lmao. Landlord definitely saw it when we moved out.

Wait they used actual Colgate toothpaste? That's wild, I've heard of people using baking soda mixes but straight up minty fresh gel? No wonder it turned into a weird crusty mess. Did they at least use the white kind or was it some striped blue garbage? Bet the whole room smelled like a dentist's office for weeks.

The blue striped kind is actually the worst for this. The white paste dries into a hard chalk, but the gel stripes stay weird and gummy forever. I tried it on a small nail hole once and it never fully set, just left a sticky blue smudge.
