My old drill finally gave out after 15 years and 2 houses

I was putting up a shelf in my kitchen when the motor just quit, and the repair guy said it had over 8,000 hours on it. That number blew my mind because I never kept track, I just used it for everything from hanging pictures to building a deck. It mattered because it made me realize how much value you can get from a simple tool if you just take care of it. Anyone have a favorite brand for a replacement that might last that long?

Makes me wonder what else we own that quietly lasts for decades.

Wow, 8,000 hours is insane, that drill was a real workhorse. When @chen.adam mentioned his buddy's Makita, it got me wondering, what did you do over the years to keep yours running so long? Like, did you clean it out a lot or avoid certain jobs with it? I'm trying to get my own stuff to last half that time.

My buddy had the same thing happen with his old Makita, just smoked itself on a fence project. He was so bummed he went out and bought the same model again, said he trusts it to last another twenty years. Some tools just earn that kind of loyalty, you know?
