PSA: Fixed a slow drain with a shop vac and it was way easier than I thought

My kitchen sink was draining super slow for like three days. I tried boiling water and baking soda and vinegar but nothing worked. I was about to go buy a snake from Home Depot but decided to try my shop vac first. I just sealed the hose over the drain with a wet rag, set it to blow mode for a few seconds, then switched to vacuum mode. It pulled out a nasty clump of grease and food bits that had been stuck in there. Took maybe 10 minutes total and saved me a trip to the store. Has anyone else tried this trick for a clogged drain?

Lately it feels like the best solutions are the ones you stumble into out of pure laziness.

Best solutions you stumble into out of pure laziness" really hits home, @fiona_murphy. It's wild how many shortcuts and workarounds I've found just by being too tired to do something the "right" way.

One time I needed to merge a bunch of spreadsheets for a project but didn't want to learn how to use the proper formulas. So I just copy-pasted everything into one giant text file and used find-and-replace to clean it up. Took maybe 15 minutes and worked fine, even though I'm sure there's a way to do it automatically. Sometimes messy shortcuts just get the job done better than the "right" way would.
