Can we talk about the time I tried to install a floating shelf in my apartment in Phoenix and ended up with a perfect rectangle of drywall on my floor?

Last month, I confidently drilled into what I thought was a stud, only to have my entire anchor pull out a chunk of wall the exact size of my level, which I then had to patch before my landlord's inspection next Tuesday.

Check your drill bit for drywall dust on it, that's a dead giveaway you're not in wood. Grab a cheap stud finder from the hardware store, it'll save you a ton of headache and spackle.
