Last month I finally fixed a squeaky floorboard in my 1920s house... the trick was finding the right spot to put the screw.

My old place had a floorboard that only squeaked when the humidity dropped. Drove me nuts for a year.

But like, how bad could one squeak really be?

My buddy's floor had a single squeak right by the fridge. After six months of ignoring it, the repair guy showed us a termite buffet the size of a dinner plate. That one squeak was basically a tiny insect dinner bell. It's never just a squeak, it's the house politely clearing its throat before it tells you the bad news.

Forget the squeak. Think about what that noise is hiding. Could be telling you about a bigger problem with the joists.
