My kid asked why we have a phone book in the junk drawer

It hit me that I haven't looked up a contractor's number in one for maybe a decade. Now I just watch a 30 second video of someone doing the repair first. Anyone else find that changes how you start a project?

My friend tried that, @hunt.nora, and now her cat knows how to make bread.

Worry about how this changes what we even mean by knowing how to do something. Like, I can watch a thirty second clip and sort of follow along to fix my sink, but I don't actually understand plumbing. We're all just pretending to have skills now, following steps without any of the real background knowledge. It feels efficient but also makes everything feel a bit like a cheap trick. I wonder if our brains are just getting rewired to accept these tiny bursts of instruction as real competence.
