My new electric planer put a gouge in my tabletop in 2 seconds flat
Was smoothing out a pine table last weekend and my electric planer decided to take a chunk out of the middle. My buddy said I was pushing it too fast and not checking the depth setting first. He was right, I had it set to 1/8" instead of like 1/32" and it just grabbed. Any tips on fixing a deep gouge in pine without sanding forever?

Ah @the_lucas nailed it, just wet the gouge with a damp cloth and iron the fibers back up first.

Wait... 1/8 of an inch? On pine? That's basically a murderer with a shovel ready to dig. Man, I've done similar stuff but never that aggressive on a first pass. You gotta creep up on pine like it's gonna bite you. One good yank and that planer just eats a hole straight through. I spent three hours with 80 grit trying to smooth out a gouge I put in a birch desktop from the exact same mistake. The dust cloud alone should've been my warning.
