Question about a tile job in my bathroom where the grout kept cracking

After the grout cracked for the third time in my small bathroom project, a guy at the tile supply place in Springfield asked if I was letting the mortar dry completely before grouting, which I wasn't, because I was rushing to finish it over a single weekend.

Could be the floor moving under it.

Feel for you, that's a rough spot to be in. A shifting floor will wreck any tile job no matter how careful you are. Makes you want to just start over from the bottom up.

Wait, you were grouting before the mortar even dried? That's the whole problem right there. The mortar needs to cure solid or everything on top moves and cracks. Rushing a tile job is a sure way to have to redo it. You have to let each layer set up fully, no shortcuts. That guy at the supply store just saved you a fourth try.
