Shoutout to my neighbor for showing me the right way to cut drywall
I keep seeing people score the paper and then try to snap it towards the cut. That's wrong. You have to snap it away from the scored line. My neighbor in Phoenix, who's a contractor, saw me doing it wrong last month and corrected me. He said snapping towards the cut makes the paper tear on the wrong side. Has anyone else had to unlearn this basic technique?

Watch a pro do it once and it clicks. That snap-away motion gives you a clean edge every single time. I had the same lightbulb moment a few years back.

That snap sound is the real key, not the motion.

Jessica Robinson mentioned that snap in a YouTube video I saw last week. She broke down the wrist angle and how the blade catches the paper. Tried it on some cheap cardstock and the difference was night and day. Clean cuts with zero tearing.
