Used a dull chisel for 3 years until a neighbor borrowed it and asked why I was basically hammering a butter knife into wood.

He sharpened it in 5 minutes and the first cut through oak felt like slicing butter, so now I'm mad at myself for all those tear-outs and bruised palms, has anyone else been knowingly using dull tools just because you didn't know better?

3 years with a dull chisel? Man that hurts just reading it. I did the same thing with a hand plane for way too long before someone showed me what a sharp one felt like.

That feeling when someone finally shows you what sharp actually does is like night and day. @paul286 bet you never looked back after that first proper plane cut.

Isn't it funny how we'll fight through a hard way for years because nobody told us there was an easier one?
