Was wrong about laminate flooring for 5 years

My brother put LifeProof laminate in his basement last winter and I thought it looked cheap. Then I saw it after 8 months with kids and dogs running on it. Still no scratches or swelling. Anyone else change their mind about a material they hated?

Wait, did you see it with actual standing water on it or just regular foot traffic? I've heard mixed things about how it handles spills if you don't catch 'em fast.

Man I actually watched my buddy's kid dump a whole juice box on his dad's new LVP floor last weekend and it sat there for like 20 minutes while we were all distracted. When we finally wiped it up there was a dark ring that stayed for like two days before it finally faded out. Honestly I think it depends on the quality of the plank you buy because the cheap stuff at the big box stores seems to soak up anything wet like a sponge. My own floors at home are mid-range and I've left a wet mop bucket on them overnight by accident and they were totally fine the next morning. So yeah I've been on both sides of this and I'm still not sure myself what the right answer is haha.

Oh man totally agree with you on that! I had a similar thing happen at my place where my dog tipped over his water bowl and I didn't notice for a solid 15 minutes while I was on the phone. The floor had this weird cloudy spot that took forever to dry out and it honestly looked like the water had seeped into the joint or something. I think it really does come down to the quality of the plank like Mary said, because the cheap stuff I had in my old apartment would literally swell up if you looked at it wrong. My current floors are a bit pricier and they've survived way worse abuse without any issues, so it's such a gamble depending on what you buy.
