Just realized I've drawn over 2,000 individual structural steel connections in the last three years.
Was cleaning up some old project folders and decided to count them all. It's wild how that number sneaks up on you. Started thinking about how much my process has changed since connection #1. I used to over-detail everything, now I have a whole library of standard details that just work. Anyone else ever tally up a random drafting metric that made you pause?

Two thousand connections is a crazy number. That's like drawing one every single work day for years. My hand would fall off.

My last building had nearly five hundred connections on the drawings. I can't even imagine doing two thousand of them. That's a whole other level of focus.

Honestly, the "hand would fall off" thing feels like a bit of an excuse. If you're still doing everything by hand in 2024, that's the real problem. Good software and templates make huge counts way more manageable. It's not about raw focus, it's about setting up a smarter system so you aren't redrawing the same thing two thousand times. That scale just means the old way doesn't work anymore.
