My $200 CAD mouse lasted 6 years but my $60 replacement is already double-clicking after 2 months.

I bought a Logitech G502 for drafting in AutoCAD back in 2018, it finally gave out, and now this cheaper one feels like it's dying way faster - anyone else notice newer gear just doesn't hold up like it used to?

Well it's not really planned obsolescence if the cheap one dies fast... more like you get what you pay for. The G502 is a premium mouse with better switches, that budget one probably uses cheap Omron or Kailh switches that wear out way quicker.

Wait is there even a difference between the switches in a $60 mouse vs a $200 one? I read somewhere that like 90% of gaming mice use the same Omron switches now regardless of price, so maybe it's just luck of the draw. @oscarc53 you might be onto something about planned obsolescence, I've seen those teardown videos where they show the same cheap parts in expensive stuff too. But then again my old G502 lasted years so I dunno, maybe some brands just QC better. The cheaper ones probably skip that extra testing step to save money. It's frustrating either way when something craps out way faster than it should.

Ngl that's just planned obsolescence doing its thing.
