Just realized the difference between a 3/4 inch suction hose and a 1 inch one on our cutterhead dredge in Mobile Bay.

Switched to the 1 inch last month and we're moving 30% more material per hour because the bigger line handles the slurry density way better without clogging, anyone else made a similar upgrade?

Honestly seems like a small change for such a big jump in output. I've seen guys claim big gains from switching hoses before and it never really held up over time. Maybe you just had a really bad clogging problem with the old setup, or the material changed a bit. Thirty percent is a lot to put down to just a quarter-inch difference.

Man, I've been wrong about dumber stuff than hose size.

Ever think it's just hype until you try it? I was right there with you, @elliot_barnes, always figured hose talk was mostly hot air. But swapping from that stiff 3/4" line to a smooth 1" actually let my pump run without fighting itself, no joke. It's not about clogging, it's like the difference between drinking through a coffee stirrer and a real straw. My machine just hits its flow rate easier now and holds it steady all day.
