Talked to an old timer at the dock last Tuesday...
He told me he never runs his cutterhead past 80% throttle, says it saves bearings and fuel. Made me think about how I've been pushing my rig hard for no good reason. Anyone else ever get a tip like that from a guy who's been doing this 30 years?

That's the thing about guys who've been doing it forever, they've learned the hard way that taking it easy on your gear actually makes it last longer. Seems like every trade has some truth like that where slowing down a bit saves you a ton of money and headaches down the road.

Wait, you're telling me there's actually contractors out there who DON'T already know this? 😂

Every trade has some truth like that" is spot on, but I'd push back a little on the "slowing down" part lol. It's more about knowing when to push and when to back off, not really going slow all the time. You can still move fast on the easy stuff, just gotta be smart about the tricky parts where gear takes the most abuse.
