The day we hit bedrock and the whole job changed

We were on a channel deepening project near Mobile, Alabama, and the cutterhead just stopped dead. I thought we'd hit a car or something. After three hours of checking, the foreman came down and said, 'Boys, that's not debris, that's the actual bottom layer.' The whole schedule got thrown out because the rock was way harder than the survey said. Anyone else ever had a job where the ground truth was nothing like the plan?

Wait, the survey was that far off? That's insane... I can't imagine the sinking feeling when you realized the whole timeline just blew up. All those plans and budgets just... gone. Makes you wonder what else they got wrong down there.

That's when the real engineering starts, after the plans fail.

My last house inspection missed a whole wall of mold.
