Warning: My neighbor was sure our dredge was a monster from the deep.
He called the cops convinced we had buried treasure.

Man, I read once that dredges look like straight up dinosaurs to people who've never seen one before. The buried treasure part is a new twist though.

Yeah that happened to a buddy of mine last summer. His solution was just walking the guy over and showing him the whole machine in the daylight. Once the neighbor saw it was just a big piece of construction gear and not some sea monster, he calmed down pretty fast. Letting him ask a couple dumb questions seemed to help too. Sometimes people just need to see the thing up close to stop their brain from making up stories.
