Warning: That Dollar Store vinegar ruined my antique mirror cleanup
I tried using cheap white vinegar from the 99 cent store to remove hard water stains from a 1920s beveled mirror I found on the curb, and it etched the silver backing right off in three minutes flat. Has anyone found a safe cleaner for old mirror glass without wrecking the finish?

@morgan898 probably right but are you sure the silver wasnt already peeling.

Curbside thrift store, complete with bonus mystery defects... sounds like a real bargain. Half the fun is guessing if something is actual vintage or just old and grimy. Hope it was free, because that's the only price worth paying for that gamble.
