Found a surprising stat about local business growth in a city report
I was looking through the City of Edmonton's 2023 year-end economic report online and saw something I didn't expect. It said over 40% of new business licenses last year were for home-based operations. I always figured most new ventures were storefronts or offices. It made me rethink what our local business network actually looks like. Maybe we should talk more about supporting these home businesses with things like digital marketing or managing client meetings. Has anyone else worked with or run a home-based business here in the city?

Is this really a big change or just how things work now? A lot of people sell crafts online or do freelance work from their kitchen table. They don't need the same help as a shop trying to get foot traffic. Maybe the city report just shows what's already normal for a lot of us.

Saw a piece about how cities still count those home businesses in economic reports, even without storefronts. Makes sense with what cameronn62 said about his cousin's setup.

My cousin's Etsy shop runs out of her living room.
