How a two-year old business card finally led to a client
I met this guy at an Edmonton Business Network event back in early 2022. We exchanged cards, had a quick chat about our businesses, and that was it. For over a year, I heard nothing from him. I almost deleted his contact from my phone. Then, out of the blue, he calls me last week with a solid lead. It turned into a decent job for my pest control business. The whole thing taught me that in networking, sometimes you just have to wait it out. No rushing, no follow-up emails every month. Just let things simmer, and they might cook up something good.

I chased leads hard before, but your story shows waiting can work too.

Remember trying to FORCE a deal once by calling someone six times in a week. Pretty sure I got their whole office to hate me. Learned the hard way that sometimes not lunging at every single lead is the actual smart move. My patience still needs a lot of work, honestly. Let's just say my 'waiting' often looks like a very antsy guy staring at a silent phone.

Man, that hits home. I used to believe you had to grab every chance right away or you'd lose it. Honestly, seeing someone else admit to messing up by pushing too hard actually makes the whole "waiting is a skill" thing click for me. It's a tough lesson but it sounds like you really learned it the hard way.
