Just realized a casual chat at a Chamber event changed my view on referrals

A contractor I met at the Edmonton Chamber mixer last month said, 'I stopped asking for them and started giving them without being asked.' It made me think my whole referral strategy was backwards. Anyone else flip their approach like that?

A podcast said giving first builds way more trust than asking.

Ever wonder why a small favor feels better than a big ask?

That podcast idea terryk28 mentioned is good, but it's not just about trust... it's about making it a real habit. Like, I put a reminder in my phone to look for one referral chance every Friday. Last week it was just telling a neighbor about a great handyman. It feels less like a transaction and more like you're just being a good connection for people. The old way of just asking always felt a bit needy.
