Showerthought: I'm tired of seeing local businesses treat networking like a chore
Honestly, I went to an event at the Edmonton Expo Centre last month and half the people were just shoving cards at each other without a real chat. Tbh, it matters because I got my best client, a plumbing company in Sherwood Park, from a 20 minute talk about his kids' hockey team, not a sales pitch. How do you build trust if you're just collecting contacts? Has anyone else made a real connection at one of these things lately, or is it all just a numbers game now?

Eh, it's just business cards.

My buddy met a guy at a chamber breakfast who just talked about fixing up his old truck. They ended up talking for an hour, no business at all. That guy called him three weeks later and gave him a huge printing contract for his whole company.
