A journeyman told me my wire pulling lube was too thick, said 'You're fighting the pipe, kid' and now I use a different brand.

What brand were you using before, and what did you switch to? I had a similar fight with some 3/4 inch EMT last year and the wrong lube made it feel like pulling concrete.

That "pulling concrete" feeling is real. Sometimes the fight isn't the tool, but the order you use them in. I've wasted an hour trying to force something before realizing I just needed a different sized wrench first.
