Found my old 2005 code book while cleaning the garage

I was looking for a missing socket wrench and pulled out a box of my stuff from when I first started. Flipping through that old book, I saw all my notes in the margins about the old 3-wire range circuits. It made me think about how much simpler some things are now with AFCI requirements, even if they felt like a headache at first. Anyone else get a little nostalgic for the old ways, or is it just me being sentimental?

Oh totally, I get that feeling. It's like looking at an old map of a town that's changed a lot. The new rules are definitely better for safety (which is the whole point, right?), but flipping through that old book is a trip. You can almost smell the coffee and sawdust from those jobs.

Keep the old book, you'll need it for those service calls on pre-2014 houses.

Man, that hits home. Just found my old 2008 NEC book last month. The pages on box fill were falling out. It's wild to see what we used to do. You're right, the new stuff is safer, no question. But there was a weird simplicity back then. Felt like you could just get the job done.
