Hot take: My cousin's non-professional electrical insights actually saved a kitchen rewire
Most electricians I know dismiss any advice from folks without a license, but my cousin, who's a handyman, pointed out a potential code violation in my plan for under-cabinet lighting. His suggestion about proper junction box placement prevented a future headache, and we adjusted the layout together. While I always prioritize safety and follow regulations, this experience showed me that practical knowledge can come from unexpected places. It's not about bypassing professional standards, but being open to collaborative problem-solving, even with relatives who aren't in the trade.

Embrace helpful advice regardless of credentials, why not?

Well, that NASA janitor story proves useful advice doesn't always wear a lab coat.

That specific story about the janitor suggesting a vacuum cleaner for the space pen always stuck with me. It shows that the person closest to a problem often has the clearest view, even without a fancy title. We get too hung up on who has the right degree or job. Good ideas are not only found at the top. Sometimes the best solution is the simple one from someone just doing their job well. The story really does prove that wisdom shows up in ordinary places.
