But come on, is it really that bad? My grandma's house had cloth wiring for years and nothing ever happened. Lots of old places still use it without issues. Sure, new codes are safer, but that doesn't mean all old wiring is dangerous. If it's left alone and not damaged, it can be just fine. People make it sound like a horror story every time.

Ugh, cloth covered stuff just gives me the creeps now. That old wiring gets so brittle and dangerous over the years. I've seen some real scary setups in old houses that still have it. It's a reminder of how far the codes have come for safety, not really the good old days.
