Spent $180 on a thermal camera for my phone and it's been a game changer

I picked it up a few months ago to check for hot spots in a panel at a rental property. Found a loose neutral on a 20-amp circuit that was running way hotter than it should have... the thing paid for itself right there. It's not perfect, but seeing heat patterns makes troubleshooting so much faster. Anyone have a favorite brand or model they stick with?

That's a solid find, especially catching a loose neutral. I've had my cheap one for years and it's saved me a dozen headaches. I feel for @oscarc53 though, my first one was a dud too, made me look like an idiot waving a dead brick at a breaker. You really have to get a feel for what you're looking at, it's not just point and shoot. The good ones turn a guessing game into a five minute fix.

Gotta disagree, sometimes you just get a bad unit. My buddy's expensive one gave false readings that almost caused a real mess.

My FLIR One was a total waste of money and never found a real problem.
