Vintage amplifier repairs are booming in my area.

More people are digging out old stereos instead of buying new. A hack: use contact cleaner on the potentiometers, it fixes most crackling sounds.

Totally seeing that trend here too. Dug out my dad's old receiver last year (it was making awful crackling noises) and a can of contact cleaner brought it right back. There's something really satisfying about fixing it yourself instead of just replacing it. The sound from that old thing just feels warmer than anything new you can buy now.

Right, that crackling noise is the worst. My old turntable started doing that last summer, just constant static through one channel. I took the whole thing apart, cleaned every pot and switch with Deoxit, and put it back together. The moment it worked cleanly again was pure relief. That hands on fix makes you appreciate the gear way more than just buying something. The sound really does have a depth that a lot of new stuff misses.

Yeah that "warmer" sound @williamb29 mentioned is totally a thing. My buddy just saved his dad's old amp with some cleaner, he was blown away by how much better it sounded than his new bluetooth speaker.
