Appreciation post: The Milwaukee M12 inspection camera saved a job in Portland

I always thought those little inspection cameras were a gimmick for plumbers, not for us. Last month in a Portland high rise, we had a car stuck between floors with no clear cause on the controller. My partner pulled out his M12 camera and snaked it down the hoistway. Found a broken limit switch bracket we would have missed for hours. Who else has a tool they doubted that turned out to be a real problem solver?

Remember laughing at the apprentice who bought the laser distance measure, called it a toy. Then we had to measure a weird angled soffit in an old building, my tape kept slipping. Kid zapped it twice, perfect number in five seconds. Felt my whole face get hot, bought one that weekend.

Know that feeling. I called my nephew's new drill a "fancy screwdriver" right before the chuck on my old one seized up solid.

Used to roll my eyes at the laser measure guys too. Then I had to figure out the run on a sloped ceiling with a busted tape and pencil marks all over the place. Borrowed the kid's laser and had the number in ten seconds, ordered my own that night.
