Had to choose between greasing the rails or replacing a worn roller on a stuck door at the old Marriott in Denver
I picked the roller job (figured grease would just hide the real issue) but 45 minutes later the bottom rail snapped and I ended up doing both anyway, has anyone else had a quick fix turn into a full afternoon?

Man, that's always how it goes with old buildings.

Wait, you mean they usually don't have hidden problems behind the pretty paint? I used to think old buildings were just charming and solid, no surprises. But after helping a client with a 1920s fixer-upper, I totally changed my mind. You pull off one piece of trim and suddenly it's like a whole new can of worms opens up. Yeah, you're right, it's always something with those old places.

Did you spot any cracks in the rail before you started or was that just a total surprise?
