Jury-rigging a chair lift with spare elevator parts

My grandma needed a way up the stairs, so I built a simple lift using old door operators and a motor from the shop. The alignment was off by a few mm, and it took ages to tweak. Now it runs ok, but I'm wondering about code stuff for DIY jobs. What do you all think?

A friend's grandma actually tripped on a cord left out. They had to call an ambulance and everything.

I read somewhere cord trips are a top cause of senior falls, which is scary.
