Pro tip: I always thought a 3/8 impact was fine for hoistway door rollers until a job in Cincinnati proved me wrong.

An old guy I worked with on a hospital retrofit kept telling me to use a 1/2 inch drive for the stubborn ones, saying 'you'll round off the nut and be there all day.' I ignored him for years. Last Tuesday, I was replacing a set of 12 rollers on a 20-year-old Otis unit, and my 3/8 impact just spun on the third one. Switched to my buddy's 1/2 inch, and it zipped every single one off in seconds. Has anyone else found a specific tool that saves way more time than you expected on a common task?

That bit about the 3/8 impact just spinning... I get that feeling with my old string trimmer. The nut holding the spool on would always seize up from grass and moisture. I'd fight it with a regular wrench for ten minutes, swearing the whole time. Finally broke down and got a little cordless impact driver for small stuff around the yard. That nut comes off in half a second now, and I feel like an idiot for not doing it years ago.

What cordless driver did you end up getting?

My old drill used to stall out on deck screws.
