Spent $180 on a digital level and it's kicking my butt

I bought one of those fancy digital levels from the supply house last month to help with rail alignments in a 40-story building downtown. The bubble on my old one was off by a hair and I kept having to redo the leveling brackets on floor 22. Has anyone else had better luck with the old analog style or am I just using the digital one wrong?

Wait, @victorhill, have you actually tried doing rail alignments on floor 22 with a cheap bubble level that's off? The digital ones are finicky, sure, but when you're that high up and every bracket has to be perfect, that old analog style will make you chase your tail all day. My issue was the digital level kept giving me false readings because I wasn't holding it perfectly still, but once I figured out the trick is to let it settle for a few seconds, it saved me from redoing brackets on three floors. The old bubble might feel more natural, but the digital one will pay off once you get the hang of it.

Hold up, "chase your tail all day"? That's wild. I gotta say, I've never heard it put that way but it makes total sense. I've definitely had days where I'm just moving brackets back and forth trying to get a bubble to sit right, never thought of it as chasing my tail though lol. That digital settling tip is gold too, I bet that's where half my problems came from when I tried one. Might have to give digital another shot after reading this.

Is it really that big of a deal though?
