Spent a full day chasing a phantom door lock fault in a 90s Otis. The sensor was fine. The wiring was fine. A pigeon had built a nest in the shaft and the feathers were tripping the beam.

It's funny how often the real problem is just nature getting in the way of our machines. You can spend hours checking every technical part, only to find a leaf, a bug, or a bird's nest. The world doesn't care about our systems. It reminds me of fixing a computer only to find a pet hair jammed in the fan. We build these perfect, logical boxes, and then the messy outside world finds a way in.

Always check the hoistway first now. I learned that lesson the hard way after a similar call. You can waste a whole shift on perfect circuits when the issue is just debris in the path. Keep a small vacuum in your tool bag for dust and feathers. It saves so much time to just clear the area before you even break out the meter.
