That hydraulic oil additive was a total waste of $200
Tbh I listened to a few guys on here saying to dump that $80 can of LiquiMoly additive into the hydraulic system to quiet down a noisy pump. Ngl I figured it was worth a shot since the pump was already 15 years old and groaning. After two months I didn't hear any difference and the pump gave out last week anyway. Had to spend $4,200 on a new pump and labor which hurt way more. Anyone else fall for those additive gimmicks or is there one that actually works?

Drove that same bandwagon once. Threw in some Lucas stabilizer and it just made the groaning sound different, not quieter. Ended up learning the hard way that additives just mask symptoms, not fix the real problem.

Well, what did you end up finding was the real problem after the additive wore off? Was it the pump itself or just old fluid?

Did you ever try swapping the fluid before that additive stuff, @nora_walker57? Tbh I did something similar once with an old F150, threw in some cheap stabilizer and it just made the whole whine shift to a lower pitch for two weeks before the pump finally seized up.
