I started a weekly coffee meetup for three people and it grew to twenty
I just wanted to talk shop with two other founders I knew, so we met at a cafe every Tuesday. After a month, each of us brought one more person, and those people brought others. Now we have a full table of twenty every week, and the deals and ideas that come out of it are way better than any big conference I've been to. Has anyone else found that a tiny, regular group works better than a huge, one-off event?

Scale it by splitting into smaller pods.

Splitting into smaller pods sounds good in theory. But you can end up with a mess of communication problems between them. I saw a team try this with their payment system, and the auth pod kept falling behind. Suddenly checkout breaks because the pods are talking different versions. It adds a lot of overhead just keeping them in sync.
