That random quote at a coworking space that finally clicked for me

I was at this coworking spot in Portland last Tuesday and overheard some guy say 'your network is your net worth but only if you actually talk to people'. It hit me hard because Ive been collecting business cards for 6 months but never following up. I started sending just a quick text or email the next day to people I meet at events. Anyone else have a simple habit that made their networking actually work?

Oh man, that's basically a professional version of 'I'll definitely text you' after a first date. I mean, I've got a drawer full of cards that might as well be confetti at this point. Maybe it's just me but actually talking to people seems like a lot more work than just collecting little rectangles of paper.

Tell them next time you'll take a photo of their card and toss it immediately after. Honestly saves everyone the awkward dance of pretending you'll use it.

That's assuming people even look at the cards after they hand them to you, half of them probably end up in the trash before you leave the parking lot.
