Used to swap business cards like candy at every event I went to
For years I thought networking meant collecting as many cards as possible, you know, the numbers game. I'd come home from a mixer in downtown Austin with 30 cards and zero actual follow-ups. Then I met a guy at a coffee shop who said he only connects with 3 people per event and really gets to know them. Now I focus on deep conversations instead of handshake marathons, anyone else ditch the stack-and-chase method?

Exactly, that guy's coffee shop advice completely flipped my approach too.

Ditched that whole approach last year and honestly it changed everything for me. Used to think more contacts meant more opportunities but now I actually know people's names and what they care about. Quality over quantity is the real move and I'm getting way better results from it.

Totally feel this. Started doing the same thing a few years back and it cut my card stack by a lot but my actual real connections went way up. Now I just aim for two solid talks where we actually exchange ideas, feels way less fake.
