I was steaming faces way too hot for a year before a client's reaction stopped me cold.

I had this regular who always sat quietly, but last month she flinched and said, 'That feels like it's burning my eyes.' I checked the steamer, and it was set to 140 degrees. I looked it up right after the appointment, and most sources say 110-115 max for facial steaming. I felt awful. Has anyone else had a client call them out on a setting you didn't even think about?

Honestly though, that client might have just had super sensitive skin that day. I mean, steamers can vary a lot by brand, and some older models just run hotter. Maybe her eyes were dry or she had a reaction to a product used earlier. It's possible the setting was fine for most people and she was the outlier. I've used steamers around that temp before without issues, so maybe it's not a universal rule.

Wait, you've used steamers at that temp? Tbh that sounds crazy hot to me, I would never go that high on a client.

Man, that happened to me with a neck steam setting. I started keeping a digital thermometer right by the steamer to double check the output. It showed my machine was running way hotter than the dial said. Now I test the steam on my inner wrist before every single client, it only takes a second. Better to catch it yourself before a client has to say something.
