My old boss swore by using a hot towel before extractions, but my new mentor in Austin said to skip it.

I tried her method of just using a good steam for 8 minutes and my clients have way less redness now. Has anyone else switched up their pre-extraction routine and seen better results?

Honestly, that makes total sense. A hot towel can be way too harsh and basically cook the skin. What david562 said about a warm compress is closer to the right idea, but even steam needs to be watched. I found that cutting my steam time down to like five minutes made a huge difference. Less irritation means the skin is calmer and heals faster after you work on it.

Well, there you go. Your old boss was basically running a soup kitchen on people's faces. No wonder everyone left looking like a steamed lobster. My cousin's an esthetician and she said the same thing, dropping the hot towel was the best thing she ever did. Clients just don't need that much heat before you go poking around.

Try a warm compress instead of hot.
