Overheard a client say her last esthetician used a dirty towel on her face

I was wiping down my station at the shop when I heard a new client tell my coworker she switched to us because her last esthetician wiped her face with a towel that smelled like old makeup remover. Gross. She said she watched her grab it out of a bin that wasn't even lined. Made me triple check my own laundry service. Anyone else run into former clients with wild hygiene horror stories from other places?

I used to work front desk at a spa and one woman came in furious that a previous place reused the same cotton rounds for three different clients. She said she watched the esthetician dunk a used one back into the bowl of toner. I started checking my own supplies way more carefully after hearing that story. It made me keep a separate dirty bin with a clear lid so clients can see where used stuff goes. That simple change helped a lot with building trust.

Read an article once about how some places reuse cotton rounds to save a couple bucks. It's honestly wild what people will do to cut costs. That dirty bin idea is smart, makes it really clear where the line is drawn.

Oh man, I'll be honest... I used to roll my eyes at people who made a big deal about that stuff. Figured it was just the price of doing business and clients were being picky. But hearing about that esthetician dunking a used cotton round back into the toner bowl... yeah, that's nasty. The clear dirty bin is a smart move, shows you actually care about hygiene without having to say a word.
