Tried that LED mask everyone raves about. Got a sunburn on my face.
Used the Dr. Dennis Gross mask for 20 minutes last Tuesday. My face was bright red for 2 days. Esthetician friend said I was using it wrong. Apparently you have to build up tolerance. Didn't see that on the box. Anyone else make this mistake?

Wait, did you seriously not read the instructions? I mean, I get it, the box is small and nobody reads those things. But every single LED mask I've ever seen says start with 3 minutes and work up. 20 minutes right out the gate is kinda nuts, no offense. Your skin needs time to adjust to the light, especially if you're using red light or near infrared. I wouldn't call it a sunburn either, it's more like a sensitivity reaction from going too hard too fast. I did the same thing with a cheaper mask a few years ago and learned my lesson quick.

Did you at least use a moisturizer with ceramides after? Because that would have helped calm it down a lot. I learned the hard way that jumping into 20 minutes is basically asking for trouble, your skin barrier just isn't ready for that kind of light exposure all at once. Honestly, I'd skip the mask for a few days and just stick to a gentle routine with aloe or something soothing. When you go back, start at 3 minutes like the box says and then add a minute or two each session. It's boring but way better than dealing with that red, angry feeling again.

Totally agree with you @mary_martin22, I ruined my first mask doing the same thing.
