I watched my neighbor try to fix his sprinkler for an hour yesterday

He kept turning the main shutoff valve the wrong way, thinking 'lefty loosey' always meant off. The epiphany hit me when I realized the valve handle was on upside down from a past repair, so turning it right actually opened it. He flooded his petunias three times before I walked over and showed him. Anyone else run into backwards hardware that makes the usual rules useless?

Imagine how many people never figure out the trick.

That's the worst kind of home repair trap. Someone before you did a hack job and now the normal rules are broken. Makes you want to find that guy and hand him a wrench lol.

Sometimes you just have to fix it and move on. Getting mad at the last guy doesn't help you now.
