My sister kept telling me to stop apologizing for things that aren't my fault

I finally listened after a coworker in Chicago snapped 'it's not your job to be sorry' when I said it for the tenth time in a meeting. Has anyone else had to break a habit of over-apologizing?

Stop apologizing" is a tough habit to break, for sure.

Yeah, "tough habit to break" is putting it lightly, I feel that.

Ugh, that coworker was harsh but honestly they had a point. I used to do the same thing, saying sorry for just existing in a room. It took my friend pointing out how often I did it to make me really notice. Now I try to swap it for "thank you" or just say nothing, which feels weird at first but gets easier.
