Pro tip: I finally figured out how to stop my 3 year old from having a meltdown at the grocery store.
After six months of failed bribery and threats, I just started giving him a specific job, like holding the list or finding the green apples, and it worked perfectly the last three trips to the Safeway on Main.

I wish I could get my old truck to behave that well, and @wendyk56, that calculator trick is genius!

Honestly, the toy calculator move is a solid plan. Tbh I used to let my nephew "inspect" the groceries with a toy flashlight. He'd check every box and can like it was a big deal. Ngl, it added five minutes to the trip but zero meltdowns. Finding that little job they can own is the whole game.

Giving them a job is the real trick. My daughter used to lose it until I put her in charge of the "scanning" with a toy calculator. It made her feel important and kept her busy.
