That $600 heating bill woke me up to a drafty basement door

I paid $600 last January for heat and half of it was going right outside through a gap under the basement door. A $15 weather strip fixed it in 10 minutes, anyone else find a stupid simple fix after throwing money at something?

Used to think weatherstripping was one of those things that didnt really matter that much. I mean how much could a little gap really cost you right? Then I actually sealed my attic door last winter and my heating bill dropped almost $100 the next month. Went from a doubter to a total believer real quick. Its amazing how a tiny crack or gap can just bleed heat out all day and you never think twice about it until you actually see the proof in the numbers.

Right? Its funny how you convince yourself a little draft is just normal house stuff. @carr.elliot you basically proved that attics are just big money vacuums sucking your cash right out. I did the same thing around my front door last month and my wife keeps joking that I should do it for a living now. It feels like such a small dumb thing until you get that bill and its all the proof you need. All those little gaps add up to a whole lot of wasted heat and money its kind of embarrassing how long it took me to figure that out.

My buddy Jim replaced the rotted trim around his back door last fall and his December bill was $80 less than the year before. @mark_price that's the same thing he said about feeling embarrassed it took him that long to figure out.
