Grandma's pie crust trick I wish I learned sooner

My aunt pulled me aside at Thanksgiving and said 'freeze your butter, then grate it into the flour.' No more crumbly dough after 15 years of fighting with the rolling pin. Anyone else got a weird baking hack like that?

@stellachen The 'marble rolling pin in the freezer' thing is a good example of how we sometimes overcomplicate things when the old school way actually works. It's funny how the simple stuff like keeping everything cold is the real secret.

My grandma used to keep a marble rolling pin in the freezer. She swore it helped the dough stay cold while she worked it. I never really believed it until I tried it myself one Christmas and the crust came out so flaky my dad actually complimented it. He never notices anything I bake.

Heard a baker once say the same thing about keeping your tools cold.
